Sri Ramachandra Medical Center Introduces da Vinci Robotic Surgical System in Chennai

Chennai-based leading multispeciality hospital, Sri Ramachandra Medical Center (SRMC), has introduced a robotic-assisted surgical system at its Chennai facility aimed at expanding its capabilities in minimally invasive procedures.
The robotic system, Intuitive’s da Vinci, consists of a surgeon console, a patient-side cart with three to four robotic arms, and a high-definition 3D vision system, and is designed to replicate the surgeon’s hand movements in real-time from a console.
According to the hospital, the system will be deployed for procedures including prostatectomies, hysterectomies, colorectal surgeries, and cardiothoracic interventions.
The da Vinci robotic surgery system seeks to support a range of complex surgical procedures by providing enhanced visualisation and dexterity beyond conventional surgical techniques.

The advanced system was inaugurated in a formal ceremony by V. R. Venkatachalam, chancellor of the Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research.
Last year, CARE Hospitals had also reported the completion of 1,000 robotic gastrointestinal (GI) surgeries at its Visakhapatnam facility within 18 months by leveraging the da Vinci robotic surgical system for these procedures.
